Melzer wins his 300th match to reach the semifinal in Zagreb

Jurgen Melzer achieved two important goals: reaching the semis in Zagreb and winning his 300th match.

The Austrian needed a bit of moral boost as he went down a lot in the ATP rankings (now world 30th from being in the top 10 two years ago), he has just lost two disappointing matches in the Davis Cup against Kazakhstan with very low ranked players, and before this tournament he was coming from 3 consecutive defeats. So… time to regroup and be back to his tennis!

This is the semis line up.

1st Semis – Cilic – Youzhny

Seed no.1 Marin Cilic got to the semis defeating Zemja 6-2 6-3 and Kavcic 6-3 7-6 (5). Seeded no.3 Youzhny had a very easy journey to the semis to beat Susling 6-3 6-2 and Dodig 6-3 6-2.

Head to head is 5-3 for Youzhny, but Cilic won the last 2 matches.

2nd Semis – Melzer – Haase

Seeded no.4, Melzer reached the semifinal defeating Devvarman 1-6 7-6 (2) 6-2 and then Rosol 6-4 6-4.

Unseeded Haase beat wildcard Veic 2-6 6-3 6-3, seed on.5 Klizan 6-2 4-6 6-4 and qualifier Petzschner 6-4 3-6 6-0

Head to head is 3-0 for Melzer
