Nishikor Positive To Coronavirus

We receive bad news from Kei Nishikori that revealed that he tested positive to the Coronavirus. The Japanese sensation was expected to play the Western & Southern in New York, but eventually, he had to pull out releasing the following statement:

“Hi everyone, I have some unfortunate news today. This morning while still in Florida, I got tested for Covid19 and tested positive. I will have to pull out of the Cincinnati tournament at this time. Me and my team will get tested again on Friday at which point I will have another update. I am feeling well and have very little symptoms but will obviously be in complete isolation for the safety of everyone. We were planning to fly to New York tomorrow but will obviously now stay in Florida. Next update will be on Friday.”

Nishikori his elbow injury and the US Open

At this point, it doesn’t seem plausible that Kei will play the US Open. If he needs to self-isolate for 2 weeks he would be ready to be on court just no the occasion of the start of the slam. In that case, respecting the isolation, he would compete without having any training on court. The last time that Kei played a match it was 1 year ago at the US Open. Then he was sidelined by an elbow injury.

Kei was happy with his recovery and in May he even admitted that the long hiatus imposed by the Pandemic helped his recovery. On Friday, he will disclose if he will play the US Open. The odds are against him
