Bianca Andreescu beat Serena Williams in a hard-fought and highly-engaging final last year at the US Open. Unfortunately, the Canadian will not be able to defend her title in New York as she declared she is not fit to play. Rumors say that Bianca managed to recover from the nasty injury she suffered last year at the WTA Finals, but she is now struggling with a foot injury.
Williams about Bianca being smart
Serena is in a great relationship with Bianca. During a recent press conference in Lexington, she was asked to comment about the retirement. This was Serena’s reply:
“She’ll come back. She’ll do well when she’s ready. She’s smart enough to play if not injured. I haven’t actually talked to her. I just know the secret that I like her. As a person and as a player I think she’s so mature and so cool.”
