‘I am preparing for the Roland Garros. The US Open still important’ – NADAL

Rafael Nadal talks about not playing the US Open and the fact that he has been focusing on winning his 13th Roland Garros

Rafael Nadal Will Not Play The Us Open To Focus On The French Open

At 34 years of age, Rafael Nadal didn’t surprise many after he decided to withdraw from the US Open. After the Coronavirus pandemic caused huge mayhem in the tennis schedules, the Spanish legend was meant to defend in a small amount of time the titles at the US Open, the ATP1000 in Rome and the French Open. Since Nadal is also well-known for being rather injury-prone especially when competing for the American slam it wasn’t making much sense for him to risk and play the US swing.

Eventually, Rafa decided to withdraw and talking to the international press, he commented:

“It’s still big, I’m not arrogant enough to say it’s not because I’m not playing. It’s true it will be in special circumstances, lots of important players not there. But still, a grand slam and the winner will feel like the winner of a Grand Slam.”

Talking about competing in the French Open, Rafa added:

“I trust it will [be plaed], it is in my mind and I’m preparing for it but we have to wait for events, to see how it evolves because in recent weeks the situation seems to have worsened a little. My hope and my intention would be to be there if conditions allow.”
