The disaster that occurred at the now-disgraced Adria Tour has created some embarrassment among the organizations that are working hard to stage the return of tennis.
While the danger of the Coronavirus is very much still alive all over the world, there is a huge effort to try to come back to a sort of normal life. After so much controversy, the USTA found a way to obtain the go-ahead from the local government to stage the US Open. Unfortunately, things got shaky after the reckless behavior at the Adria Tour that caused the spread of the virus among the players, their teams and the community.
The statement of the ATP
Things are quite awkward as the Adria Tour was a project cherished and promoted by the world no.1 Novak Djokovic that is also the President of ATP Player Council.
The ATP released the following statement stating hat they are doing everything possible to resume tennis safely.
“The ATP wishes a complete and quick recovery for the ATP players and members of their staff who tested positive for COVID-19 following involvement in the Adria Tour exhibition tournament. The ATP continues to urge strict adherence to responsible social distancing and health and safety guidelines to contain the spread of the virus.
In planning for the resumption of the ATP Tour season from 14 August, ATP and other stakeholders have made exhaustive plans to mitigate risks through a variety of precautions and protocols to be implemented at ATP events.
We continue to plan and adjust these precautions and protocols according to the latest medical information and prioritize safety in assessing every decision.”
