What an interesting and refreshing upset!!!
The young American defeats her tennis idol in 3 tough sets to conquer her first semifinal in a slam.
The match didn’t start really well for Sloane to lose the first set 6-3 in just 28 minutes. It looked like the typical “oh, yes… you are a very good prospect, but you are not there yet”. Sloane proved it wrong as she managed to take advantage of Serena’s back injury (end 2nd set) to win the second set and set up a battle in the third.
Slowly but surely Serena’s fitness was coming back after she asked for a medical time out in the second set, but she lost a very important weapon in the third set.
Sloane is definitely the most interesting newcomer in the WTA circuit. She is young, she is funny, she has a lovely character and she doesn’t possess a one sided boom boom tenins to be able to give interesting variations and to adapt according to each situation.
