Ferrer wins an incredible 5 setter against Almagro – 2012 Australian Open

What a warrior! Once again David demonstrates that he has an immense heart and he never gives up.

Today it was Almagro’s perfect day (in theory). Nicolas lost all the 12 matches against his friend David and today he found himself 2 sets up and serving for the match 3 times. But he couldn’t make it.

On the other side Ferrer had a very strange day as he was playing a really lousy tennis for his standards, bu the managed to hang tough and to take advantage of Almagro’s  “low moments” Curiously Ferrer was strong only in one department… his service as he blasted 16 aces without committing a double fault (yes.. we are not talking about Raonic, but Ferrer!)

The match lasted till the 4th set when Almagro got also injured during the tiebreak. The 5th set was a sort of stroll in the park for Ferrer as Almagro wasn’t able to compete because of his injury.

From Ferrer

“I tried to fight every point, every game,” said Ferrer. “I know all players in important moments are nervous. I try to do my best. Today I was close to losing. But finally I came back. I always try to do my best, to fight a lot. If I am to lose, I would like to lose fighting. I never give up.”

From Almagro

“I’m disappointed with the tie-break, but I need to work more to be ready to play with the top players,” said Almagro. “Today was a big opportunity for me. I’m going to work to be ready for the next.”
