It is well known that tennis players do not like facing their closest friends or even worse siblings. However, Alison Van Uytvanck and Greetje Minnen went to an all-new level when they played against each other in 2019.
Alison and Minnen are staunch defenders of LGBT movements. The couple has been dating since 2015 and they came out in 2018. Alison and Greetje have the luxury of traveling the world together. However, last year in July they had the unpleasant surprise to be scheduled to play each other in the first round of a tournament in Karlsruhe. Eventually, it was Alison to win 6-4 1-6 6-1 and the fight ended with a kiss at the net.
During a recent video with Outsport, Alison admitted that it wasn’t easy at the beginning to accept that they had to play against each other. However, since they are competing mostly in the same events sooner or later that had to happen.
“It was tough. We were like how are we going to handle this. It was tough. It wasn’t that weird before the match. We were just talking normally. We were even warming up together. And the level was actually quite good. We didn’t expect it to be, but it was a good level.”
