Roger Federer was definitely “lucky” for the forced break as he decided to have a knee operation and he already stated that he would have skipped the sunshine double and the clay-court season to be back only on grass. The suspension of the tours will give more time for the Swiss to get ready. However, for Roger, the cancellation of Wimbledon has been a huge blow and at almost 39 years of age, it will be more and more unthinkable for him to win yet another major. Rafael Nadal seems to struggle a lot during this pandemic as he said to have been heavily affected by the bad news that has been afflicting all of us for the last few months. In addition, Nadal is well aware that he is at the end of his career and not playing now is a huge blow for him since the clock is ticking.
Novak Djokovic has also a lot to recriminate for the interruption as he was enjoying a fantastic momentum in 2020 with a great 18-0 win/loss record.
Why the older players will have a better comeback
During a recent interview with the Tennis Channel, Mouratoglou explained that younger player will struggle more than the older one when tennis resume. According to the Frenchman, the likes of Serena and the Big3 can take advantage of their great experience to find the groover sooner than their younger counterparts.
“I think it’s more difficult for a young player because they are so hungry. They feel that things are going well, they think they’re getting better day after day. They’re so ambitious because they feel the tennis world will belong to them. So it’s difficult to stop and not be able to continue to raise.
The older players who have so much experience, such as Serena and of course Novak, Rafa, Roger, will need less time to get back to their best level because they don’t need as much competition as the other players. They’re the only ones who are able to do that,” he said.
