Roger Federer has recently topped the chart has the highest-paid athlete in the world beating the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. The Swiss legend will not have any financial problems during and after the Coronavirus pandemic, but that doesn’t mean that he is not careful about the problems of other people.
This Coronavirus outbreak has been impacting workers all over the world and many lower-ranked players are severely affected. Already before this pandemic, we received testimonies from some top players admitting that in some parts of their careers they were so broken that at times they had to sleep in cars because they didn’t have the money to pay for a hotel room (Jerzy Janowicz and Nikoloz Basilashvili).
Federer and the mental issues
During an interesting talk with tennis legend Guga Kuerten, Roger Federer stressed the fact that we might oversee the mental issues that some tennis players may have following this pandemic.
“We shouldn’t forget the players who suffer from mental health problems. It is important that we do not underestimate the importance of mental health in our sport. We need to show support to each other. Maybe it’s a fresh start that people and the world needs,” said Roger.
Roger also admitted that he has not been training because he is not seeing the reason while Rafael Nadal admitted he used not to be in a great mental space during the lock down.
