Roger Federer is out of the competitions for almost 4 months since he lost in the Australian Open semifinal to Novak Djokovic. Later, the Swiss sensation decided to have a knee operation to schedule his comeback for the grass season. Unfortunately, there will be no grass this year because of the Coronavirus pandemic and the sport doesn’t seem it will be back any soon.
The 20-slam champion is currently spending his time with the family in Switzerland, where he is trying to make sense of the situation. He is enjoying the moment.
Why Federer decided not to train
During a video-chat with Gustavo Kuerten, Roger commented
“We have never stayed at home for more than 5 weeks since my last surgery in 2016. This is a great time for us as a family.
Of course, we sometimes drive each other crazy, like any family. But honestly, we are healthy. Our friends and family did not have the virus, which is important for us. And we’re doing well despite the circumstances.”
“I’m not training at the moment because I don’t see a reason for that to be honest. I am happy with my body now and I still believe that the lap of the circuit is a long way off.
And I think it’s important for my head at this point to enjoy this break after playing so much tennis. I don’t miss it so much“, Roger added.
However, the Swiss sensation loves the sport and he will no miss he chance to try to go and win yet another slam even if he will turn 39 pretty soon. “I will feel it eventually when I am close to returning and have a goal to train for. I’m going to be super motivated“, he concluded.
