Maria Sharapova displayed an excellent form in the opening match of the Auckland Classic in New Zealand. She looked completely recovered from her shoulder injury and ready to come back at the top of the world stage.
The Russian cruised past Alberta Brianti in less than 90 minutes 6-2 6-3.
‘This was my first match of the year and I hadn’t played a tournament in a while, so it was important to get a feel for everything, I thought I could have closed it out a bit sooner, but she definitely pushed me and I guess I wanted to play a few more games.’ Commented Sharapova.
In the second round the Russian will face the unseeded Renata Voracova.
