Sharapova withdraws from Brisbane International

Ahi ahi… the 2013 edition of the WTA Brisbane International has already lost many top players. After the early (and shocking) departure of Wozniacki and Stosur, Maria Sharapova had to retire due to an inflamation to her collarbone.

This injury has already prevented her to play the exhibition in Seoul and now the Russian beauty will skip also Brisbane.

Smart Move

”I still have quite a bit of time to prepare for Australia. I’m on the right track, been training really well, so I just don’t want to jeopardize what I’ve gained in the offseason so far,” the No. 2-ranked Sharapova said. ”Just have to make a smart move here.”

Can’t serve

”I had a bit of inflammation in my collarbone, and I sent (scan results) to a doctor in New York and he told me I couldn’t really do much overhead training for about a week,” she added . ”So to be fair, I haven’t really given myself a chance to pretty much hit any serves or anything over my head … So I just kind of ran out of time here.”

What’s the collarbone?

This is the definition from Wikipedia

“the clavicle or collarbone is a long bone of short length that serves as a strut between the scapula and the sternum. It is the only long bone in the body that lies horizontally. It makes up part of the shoulder and thepectoral girdle and is palpable in all people, and, in people who have less fat in this region”

Let’s hope to see her back to her top form in Melbourne!
