Nadal to be offered $1.2 million to play the ATP in Vina del Mar

Tennis is really booming and money is following.

Top players are making the mega bucks just to show up at events and tournaments. It seems that winning a Slam or being at the top of the rankings is the best promotional tool ever.

The Business

Apparently the recent  couple of weeks in South America allowed Federer to earn more than he did in the entire 2012 (talking about prize money and he had a handsome year!).

“Minor tournaments” are sniffing the business to offer mega bucks to superstars. Apparently the Russians have been trying for sometimes to lure Rafa and Nole for the Kremlin Cup, but now it is the moment of Latin America.

Rafa

Rafa has already announced he will play more tournaments on clay for 2 good reasons. First he has to cope with his kneew (and clay is not as taxing as hard courts), second … he is the King of Clay!

So Nadal has already annouced his participation to Acapulco in February, and now the organisation of the ATP in Vina de Mar (Chile) will try to get Rafa on board with a mega offer ($1.2 million just to participate).

The tournament will take place from the 4th of February.

This is only an 250 ATP tournament… but if money is good… who cares!

The 2012 Vina del Mar Champion was Monaco over Berloq 6-3, 6-7 (1), 6-1
