Serbia wins the 2010 Davis Cup and makes history

On the paper it was not an easy day.
Serbia was down 1-2 against a seemly ‘better equipped’ France (9 times winner of the Davis Cup).
The East Europeans squandered in an unfashionable manner a 2 sets lead in the double match after a terrible performance by Troicki in the last sets.
Then Novak Djokovic cruised past an erratic  Gael Monfils 6-2 6-2 6-4 to even the score (2-2).
Finally Troicki went from Zero to Hero and crashed in the deciding match Michael Llodra that was the hero of the doubles. (6-2 6-2 6-3). This match gave the 2010 Davis Cup to Serbia.
According to Djokovic: ‘We were trying not to lose our heads, but still you could feel the disappointment after the doubles match because we were so close to winning, and then so much pressure playing in front of our crowd’
‘To be able to perform as well as we did today under the circumstances is just too good. It’s history, one of the best sports results this country has ever had.’
‘This is by far — individually and for the team — the best achievement in our career by far’
Troicki was also quite emotional in his comment: ‘I was remembering when I was a child and how I was dreaming one day of playing such an important match for my country. I’m not a hero. We all did it. Janko in the semis. Novak hasn’t lost a match this year in Davis Cup in singles. I thank him and all the team. Without them, we couldn’t do it.’
Now it is time for celebration in Serbia.
