Tipsarevic wins the Clash of Continents exhibition in Singapore

Janko is trying to help the development of tennis in Asia and in the mean time is getting some nice money. What’s better than that?

The Serb was the top player of this nice exhibition in Singapore whose concept was to make 4 players of four different continents to clash in a round robin.

The format of each match was best of three with the super tie-break in the 3rd set.

The representatives were:

1- Europe – Tipsarevic
2- Asia – Nishikori
3- North America – Querrey
4- Latin America – Monaco

The tournament was played over 2 days (24 and 25th of Novemeber) with the following results

Nishikori – Querrey 6-3 6-4

Monaco – Nishikori 6-2 6-2

Tipsarevic – Querrey 7-6 6-2

Tipsarevic – Monaco 7-5 3-6 10-5

Monaco – Querrey 1-6 6-1 10-7

Tipsarevic – Nishikori Wins Tipsarevic by WO

Unfortunately The Serb and the Japanese couldn’t play the final match as Nishikori was injured to his wrist, but it was still a nice exhibition.

From Tipsarevic

“It’s nice to win overall but it’s never nice to win on a walkover, especially in an exhibition tournament,” said the world No 9, who reached the ATP World Tour finals in London earlier this month. “We’re here playing for ourselves but also playing for the crowd.”

From Nishikori about his retirement

“I’m really frustrated and disappointed I wasn’t able to play today as many fans showed up and I’ve been looking forward to playing in Singapore since I was last here,” said Nishikori, who addressed the spectators in person.
