BUMMER. Alex De Minaur out from the Australian Open with abdominal injury. Kyrgios to be the top ranked Aussie

De Minaur is out from the first slam of the year

Alex De Minaur

Alex De Minaur looked to be in supreme form during the inaugural ATP Cup after beating Sascha Zverev and Denis Shapovalov. The Australian had also a fantastic couple of sts when facing Nadal in the same competition before bowing in 3 sets.

Unfortunately, Alex had to withdraw from the ATP250 in Adelaide because of an abdominal injury and he confirmed that he will not compete at the upcoming Australian Open for the same reason.

The abdominal injury

Already in Adelaide, Alex expressed his concerns to comment:

“At the moment we’re going to take it day by day,” he told reporters in Adelaide on Monday. It’s something that is not ideal. And at this stage we are just looking at short-term goals and trying to get better each day with a lot of treatment. I have seen the physios, I have seen the doctors, and I will be continuing to do that for the whole of the week and hopefully I will be ready to play in Melbourne.”

Then he confirmed that injury was a bit too much to say: “I’ve got a 4-centimetre grade two tear. It’s serious. Getting out of bed hurts.”

Kyrgios

Nick Kyrgios will be the top-ranked Australian in Melbourne. Nick gave his full support to Alex to wish the best in a tweet: lil bro, keep your head up, you are an absolute champion. Rest up and feel better”
