Serena Williams out already in Cincinnati

Serena Williams is really struggling to square things up.

The American legend has managed to go beyond a 3 round only on 2 occasions in 6 tournaments after her comeback. This time Serena had to bow in the 2nd round in Cincinnati at the hands of a good Petra Kvitova after a tough 2 hours’ battle.

Serena and Petra went toe to toe for the entire match, and the American was also leading by 1 break (1-0) in the decider. But eventually, Petra found the right focus to win 3 consecutive games in the 3rd set (from 2-2 to 5-2) to finally conquer the contest. The final score was 6-3 2-6 6-3.

It was a pleasure sharing the court with Serena. KVITOVA

Soon after the match, Petra commented

“It was a pleasure to share the court with Serena; she’s such a champion. We are both coming back from injury, from motherhood, so it’s something really special to play her.

Unfortunately, it’s in the second round, but playing a night session against Serena in front of a USA crowd, it’s been great.”

Serena will go back to the practice court while Petra will face Kristina Mladenovic in the 3rd round.
