Jannik Sinner is about to start his run at the Next Gen Finals as one of the favorites to win the event. The Italian impressed in the last 2 tournaments in Antwerp and Vienna with his tennis and maturity, which is uncharacteristic for a player of his age.
Sinner has a rather unique story as originally he didn’t regard tennis as his “primary sport” since he enjoyed quite a lot of success at a national level when skiing. However, Jannik was spotted at 13 years of age, and he joined the well-known coach Riccardo Piatti to start his ascent in pro tennis. Now 18, Jannik is considered as one of the brightest prospects in the sport.

While most of the so-called Next Gen players are coached or managed by their often obsessed parents, the Italian credited his monther and farther for not pushing him too much. He commented: “I started quite late, my parents don’t really play and they haven’t put any pressure on me, which I think is good.”
Of course, even if Jannik’s parents didn’t put too much pressure on him, that doesn’t mean that they were not present. Once, the Italian recalled his match in Rome against Stefanos Tsitsipas to comment:
“My parents were there for the match. There was obviously some tension in the beginning, but I always believed in myself.
Playing against Tsitsipas, I tried to understand his level compared to where I was. That was probably the most important part of the tournament for me. It was a bit strange having so many people around me, but I enjoyed this. I still have so much to learn on and off the court, so I’m happy to be in these big events.”
That was the second round in Rome when Jannik lost 6-3 6-2. However, he won a prestigious first round in the same tournament against Steve Johnson 1-6 6-1 7-5.
Sinner vs. Tiafoe
Jannik is about to kick start his campaign at the Next Gen Finals against Frances Tiafoe. The H2H is 1-0 for the Italian that has recently defeated Tiafoe in Antwerp 6-4 3-6 6-3.

Ranked no.95, Jannik played his last match on the 24th of October when he was overcome by Gael Monfils 6-3 7-68 in the 2nd round in Vienna.
This year the Italian has a 38-19 win-loss record. Sinner has won 2 titles in 2019 in the Bergamo Challenger and in the Lexington Challenger. Sinner was the finalist in the Ostrava Challenger.
