Federer has great welcoming in Shanghai where he will challenge Djokovic and Nadal for the title

Federer is back in Shanghai where he will be among the top favorites.

Federer in Shanghai

Roger Federer is back in Shanghai after his successful Laver Cup!

The Swiss sensation is eager to have another deep run in Shanghai where he won the title in 2014 and 2017. Roger reached the semifinals last year in China before losing 6-4 6-4 to Borna Coric. The winner of the tournament was Novak Djokovic.

Federer challenging Djokovic and Nadal

Roger will be among the top favorites to win the title this year. The other 2 top players are (obviously) Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. However, the world no.1 is recovering from a shoulder injury that made him retire at the US Open and his condition has to be tested.

On the other side, it is still not clear if Nadal will play this event. In fact, it seems that originally he had no intention to compete also because this ATP1000 was coming just before his wedding with Xisca Perello. However, Rafa has now a big shot at ending the year as the deserving world no.1. Missing Shanghai would help his counterpart (Djokovic) to get closer to the Spaniard in the Year to Date rankings. Nadal is leading Djokovic of almost 2000 points in the Race to London right now.

What about Medvedev and Murray?

Even if the Big3 are the players to watch in China, they will have to keep tabs on Daniil Medvedev and Andy Murray. The Russian is currently no.4 and a force to reckon after his fantastic summer following his title in Cincinnati and the finals in Washington, Montreal and at the Us Open.

Andy Murray is still not at his best after his hip operation, but he is recovering pretty well. Andy loves the conditions in Shanghai where he won the title un 2010, 2011, and 2016 and therefore could be the tournament where he will “officialize” his comeback as a top player.
