Sascha Zverev is more and more a force to reckon. The 21-year-old is now 1 step away from defending his title in Washington after a solid win over Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The match
Zverev started in the best possible way to win 5 consecutive games in the opener (from 0-1 to 5-1) before winning the first set 6-2. The second set was much more even, and the decisive break came after a “gigantic” 9th game (5-4) before the German won the contest 6-2 6-4.
Defending the title would be amazing
After the match, Sascha commented
“Winning the first time feels amazing. But coming back here [there is] a little bit of pressure on your shoulders to defend your title. I’ve got another tough match ahead of me. But if I will be able to [retain my title], it’d be an amazing feeling.”
The final
Sacha will have to beat another emerging #nextgen, Alex De Minaur if he wants to defend his title. The head to head is 1-0 for Zverev that has defeated De Minaur in 5 sets this year during the Davis Cup.
