Murray beats Edmund in Washington

Andy Murray beats his friends and British no.1 Kyle Edmund in Washington!

The former world no.1 was defeated in June in Eastbourne by Kyle in straight sets, and he was eager to reverse that. In Washington, Andy played probably the best match after his comeback to beat Edmund in 3 sets even if he scored fewer points than his opponent (97 vs 99).

The match

Andy and Kyle were perfect on serve till the end of the 1st set when Murray was broken in the 11th game (5-6), and Kyle failed to serve out the set soon after. Eventually, the affair went to the breaker that Murray won at 4.

After Edmund cruised in the second set (6-1), it seemed as the British no.1 was ready to grab the decider. Eventually, the contest became a dogfight, and it was Murray to win after Edmund dropped his serve in the very last game. The final score was 7-6 (4) 1-6 6-4.

It was much better than the one before. MURRAY

After the match, Andy couldn’t hide his satisfaction to comment

“It was much better, just in terms of the way I actually played the match. In the first match, I basically spent the whole match defending; I was playing quite far behind the baseline. And that’s not really how I want to be playing moving forward.

Spoke at good length with my coach about that. Today, regardless of the result, we wanted to be at least dictating more points, trying to use my forehand, be closer to the baseline. I think I did that, especially in some of the important moments in the third set… I was more offensive. I was a lot happier with the way I approached the match today.”

Next vs. Copil

Andy will face the world no.93 Marius Copil for a place in the quarters. The head to head is 1-0 for the world no.832…
