There is a lot of questioning about why most of the tennis players do not stay at the Olympic Village. The most obvious one is that it is more than 1 hour from Wimbledon and that they like to stay in rented houses near the courts (the same they use during the Championship). Some tennis players also like a little bit of close “tennis comrade” like the Serbian team (Djokovic, Troicki, Tipsarevic and Zimonjic).
Few days ago Federer stated that can’t stay Olympic Village because he is too famous! That sounded a bit… “come on! do not exagerate… you are not the only one!”. Actually it seems he was right.
After her super win against Peer in the first round, Maria said she was mobbed at the bar of the Olympic Village.
“I’m usually pretty naïve about like people’s knowledge of me, my career, what I’ve achieved,” she said . “I try to be pretty humble about it, but the biggest mistake I’ve made in a long time was entering the cafeteria. I didn’t walk out eating any food. I barely got an orange juice. It was quite funny. Actually, I didn’t sign any autographs, it was just pictures. I felt like a little statue.”
“I have never seen so many people so happy because they got a photo with me. Sometimes I am a little naive when it comes to my popularity and success.”
There is always a prize for being famous, but the benefits are not that bad! (we are sorry Maria didn’t get any food though).
