Even as the tennis world is approaching the last months of the 2019 season, Roger Federer is still going to be busy. The former world No. 1 still has commitments to settle, a few of which concern his career as a tennis player and as a brand endorser.
Roger Federer books exhibition game with returning Juan Martin del Potro
The Swiss confirmed that he will be going to Buenos Aires, Argentina in a few months to hold an exhibition game with his friend, Juan Martin del Potro. The match will be played on November 20 in the Parque Roca stadium, which has an estimated capacity of 15,500.
The match will be heavily watched as the game will be Potro’s first official match in his home country since he broke his right knee in June. The accident happened during a game in the Queen’s Club Championships, a tune-up tournament for Wimbledon. Because of his fracture, the Argentinian had to cancel his slot in the 2019 U.S. Open.
The previous year saw the Argentine ending as runner-up to Novak Djokovic in the U.S. Open finals. With his injury healed, the former world no. 3 is now expected to participate in the ATP tournament in Stockholm and the Vienna Open in October.
Curiously, the exhibition game between Federer and del Potro will happen on the same week as the revamped Davis Cup finals. The Swiss star previously aired his disapproval of the new format of the international team event.
Federer’s other exhibition with Zverev
Apart from the match with del Potro, Federer will also be playing an exhibition game with Alexander Zverev. The 38-year old tennis icon congratulated the German for his performance during the Laver Cup. The German ace notably sealed the victory of Team Europe in the increasingly popular tennis tournament.
The Federer-Zverev exhibition match will take place in the Movistar Arena in Santiago, Chile on November 22. It can be remembered that the legendary exhibition game between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in 2013 happened in the same city.
Meanwhile, Federer’s other scheduled exhibition game for the last quarter of the year may no longer push through. Japanese player Kei Nishikori had an unfortunate elbow injury that may keep him off the courts for a few more weeks.
World No. 3’s exhibition battle with the world no. 8 would have been his first time to play in Japan since 2006. The match was supposed to happen in Tokyo’s Ariake Coliseum, with proceeds going to charity.

Ranked no.3, Roger played his last match on the 3rd of September when he had to bow to Grigor Dimitrov 3-6 6-4 3-6 6-4 6-2 in the quarter in U.S. Open.
This year Roger has a 43-7 win-loss record. Federer clinched 3 titles in 2019 in Dubai, in Miami and in Halle. Federer was the finalist in Indian Wells and in Wimbledon.
Juan Martin Del Potro’s ranking and performance in 2019
Ranked no.72, Del Potro was supposed to play his last match on the 19th of June when he surrendered to Feliciano Lopez w/o in the 2nd round in Fever-Tree Championships.
Roger Federer and Juan Martin Del Potro played each other 25 times. The head to head is 18-7 for Federer.
The last time that they competed against each other, Juan Martin Del Potro won 6-4 6-78 7-62 in the final in Indian Wells in March 2018.
