Halep beats Muguruza to reach the Roland Garros final and stay no.1

Simona Halep did it again!

The world no.1 reaches her back to back final in Paris after playing a majestic match against Garbine Muguruza.

The match

Simona had an outstanding start against the Spaniard to grab a quick 5-0 lead before winning the opener 6-1. Things got much more tense in the second set when Garbine was finally in the match. In fact, the world no.3 conquered a 4-2 lead after breaking Simona in the 3rd games (2-1). Then once more the Romanian manage to strike back, capture the following 4 games and win the match 6-1 6-4.

After this match, Simona will definitely retain her word no.1 rank from next week.

Draw and Results

One of my best matches on Clay. HALEP

Soon after the contest, Simona commented

“I think I played one of my best matches on clay. Every day I play better, and that makes me happy.

I have more experience now. I feel calm. I feel that I have to enjoy this victory because it’s a great match.

And I have two more days until I will play the final. So, I will relax, and then we will see what is going to happen Saturday. But for sure, I will fight for every ball.”

The final vs. Sloane Stephens

Simona will face Sloane Stephens in the final. The head to head is 5-2 for the world no.1 that leads also 2-0 on matches on clay. Simona hasn’t dropped a set against the American in their last 4 encounters.

This will be a fantastic opportunity for the Romanian to finally win her first slam after she lost in the Roland Garros final in 2014 (d. Sharapova) and 2017 (d.Ostapenko). The Romanian has also lost in the Australian Open this year (d. Wozniacki).

TIME TO WIN THIS SLAM!
