Nadal defends Zverev during press conference

Rafael Nadal has won 16 slams to date, and he knows very well how difficult is to go deep in majors.

The Spanish legend is about to play his 4th round at the French Open, and he wasn’t impressed with a journalist after he was asked to comment about Sascha Zverev’s performance at the Roland Garros after the German won the last 3 matches in 5 sets.

Aggressive Rafa

When asked about the seed no.2 and his struggles, Rafa reminded the journalist the Zverev was still alive and kicking to say “Still in the tournament??? Still in the tournament???”

Then he added

“It’s sport. Everybody suffers, everybody has problems, and it’s normal that you have challenges every day. It is not a surprise.

Lajovic [2nd round] was playing well. It’s true that was a surprise against Dzumhur [3rd round] because he was winning very easy.

I saw the first set and beginning of the second, and then I went to practice, and I forget it. But I came back, and I saw what’s going on. I didn’t know what happened. But he’s still in the tournament, and, you know, it’s important in the Grand Slams win. The first matches don’t matter the way.”

A nice way to defend a colleague and possibly a friend.
