2012 Olympics men’s draw: Wonderful for Federer, horrible for Djokovic and Murray

Interesting draw at the Olympics

FEDERER
Lucky again? Maybe.. but you’ll never know. King Roger was blessed with a very good draw. The Swiss Maestro will likely play a boom boom player (alias super service = big danger on grass) only in the quarters (Isner or Karlovic… if Tipsarevic agrees). Before the Maestro has to play Falla in the first round (not a grass specialist at all) and then maybe Benetteau (this might be a danger as Roger had to recover a 2 sets down deficit few weeks ago on the same courts). Then it might be Verdasco and then a boom boom guy. Roger was also lucky that Murray fell on the other side of the draw so as to possibly face Ferrer (ehm.. not a clear grass court specialist) in the semifinals.

Our pick for Roger’s opponents is: Falla, Benneteau, Verdasco, Isner, Del Potro, Djokovic/Murray/Raonic (Yes Milos might be a surprise… sooner or later he has to blossom!)

DJOKOVIC

Not a great draw. After his friend Fognini, he should play a resurrected Roddick that has just won the ATP in Atlanta. Then he should play Cilic. Then he may faceeither Raonic (worst case scenario) or Tsonga (up… this is not good as well…). In the semis he should face either Murray or Berdych (both are not nice people on the grass).

Road to final? Fognini, Roddick, Cilic, Raonic, Murray, Federer

MURRAY

Andy is definately not lucky in Wimbledon. A month ago he had another horrible draw to manage to get through in style and then lose in the final (ok.. this you already know.). This time he wasn’t blessed as well to play Wawrinka in the first round. Then he has a comfortable second round (Nieminem?) and then a bad one with Gasquet. The quarters should not be easy (Berdych?). He was “lucky” that he didn’t fall in Roger’s half, but Djokovic is not any easy player on the grass (well he won Wimbledon last year and he reached the semis this year).

Our prediction for Andy’s path? Wawrinka, Nieminem, Gasquet, Berdych, Djokovic/Raonic, Federer.

Everything is unpredictable, the only certainty is that it is going to be fun!
