Tsitsipas records his first ever grand slam win!

Stefanos Tsitsipas finally wins his first match in a slam after defeating the world no.213 Carlos Taberner 7-5 6-7 (5) 6-4 6-3.

The 19-year-old from Greece looked a bit nervous to squander a 3-0 lead in the opening set before winning 7-5. In the second set, there was no break, and the pair went straight to the tiebreak. Again, the Greek wasted a 5-3 lead to lose 4 consecutive points and the second set.

Stefanos was much more solid in the following 2 sets to finally win the match 7-5 6-7 (5) 6-4 6-3.

Next vs. Thiem

Tsitsipas will have a much more daunting task in the 2^nd round when he faces Dominic Thiem. The head to head is 2-1 for the Austrian, but it’s 1-0 for the Greek on clay after he beat him 6-3 6-2 in the Barcelona quarters this year.
