Djokovic to challenge Nadal in Rome semifinal

Novak Djokovic wins another match in Rome to finally reach his 1st semifinal in almost 1 year after Eastbourne.

In order to get to the final 4, Nole had to defeat Kei Nishikori in 3 sets after 2 hours and 21 minutes. The key of this quarterfinal was in the last part of the 3rd set. In fact, the couple was locked on a 3-all scoreline when Nole managed to break the Japanese (4-3) to then hold his serve after recovering a 0-30 deficit. Then it was time for the former world no.1 to break his opponent again and win the contest 2-6 6-1 6-3.

After the match, Nole commented

“It means a lot to me to be able to play [in the] semi-finals of a tournament again. This is what I was looking forward to. This is what I was hoping to achieve.”

 

The semis vs. Nadal

Nole will face Nadal in the semifinal. The head to head is 26-24 for Djokovic, 15-7 for the Spaniard on clay. Nadal is definitely the favorite to win this match, but if the Serbian has the tennis and the experience to upset his rival.
