Eventually, when the contest resumed the day after, Roger found himself leading 4-1 (2 minibreaks) in the second set tiebreak, but he completely lost his focus. The world no.1 lost 5 of the following 6 points, and Delbonis had 1 set point on his serve when leading 6-5. At that point, it was the Argentine to blink, and Roger won the next 3 points to conquer the match with a 6-3 7-6 (6) scoreline.

Draw and Results

It was interesting to see the different conditions. FEDERER

After the match, Roger talked about how strange was for him to play the same guy on the same court during the night and then the next day in the morning. The Swiss commented

“It is interesting when you go from night to day, and you know there is a difference. So naturally, it’s all a change. Here now you play the same guy the next day, so you can really compare how different conditions are. It was actually quite interesting.

They play very differently. In the nighttime, the ball is much deader. The surface doesn’t react so much. The ball doesn’t travel so fast. Even though I served my five aces yesterday, I hit none today. So, talking about faster, I just think there is more bounce to it, especially if you play someone who has a lot of spin like he has and kicks the ball around a lot. It’s been a long time since I have been interrupted at night and have to come back the next day.”

Next vs. Krajinovic

Roger will face Filip Krajinovic in the 3rd round. They have never played each other so far.
