Raonic upset by Becker. Hewitt in the semis – ATP Newport – Youtube

Some surprises in Newport. The bad one is Raonic having a disappointing match with Becker and losing in only 1 hour. The good one is Hewitt back on business on the grass. The Australian is in the semis and that was unexpected since he is recovering from a recent toe surgery. Lleyton  came to Newport without many expectations as his main focus was on putting as many matches he could under his belt before the Olimpics, but things are going much better than expected.

Yesterday Lleyton managed to defeat Sells in 78 minutes displaying quite a lot of confidence. The Australian will face world no.118 Rajeev Ram in the semis.

On the other side of the draw qualifier Becker had a very good win in 1 hour over Milos Raonic. The Canadian had huge expectations for his grass court season especially after losing by inches with Federer in Halle , but it seems he is struggling a lot. In Newport he blasted only 5 aces and he was broke 3 times. This unusual stats are completed by the Canadian winning only 65% points on his first serve.

“If you qualify you have three good matches under your belt,” said Becker. “You know the courts, which is a little bit of an advantage over the guys who have only played one match. He didn’t serve many aces, whereas last time I played him he served nearly 30 aces. His serve wasn’t as effective today; I made him play a lot on his second serve and used my chances.”

Becker will play Harrison in the quarters.
