Fantastic news for Simona Halep’s fans as the Romanian has decided to play in Dubai (19th of February) to have a great chance to get back to the top of the rankings if she has a good run.
In fact, the world no.2 is just 350pts below Caroline Wozniacki, and Simona has no points to defend in Dubai while the Dane was last year’s runner-up, and that means that she needs to defend 305 points. In addition, Wozniacki hasn’t confirmed yet if she will compete in Dubai.
Of course, everything also depends on the run that both Simona and Caroline will have the week before in Doha, but once again Simona has no points to defend at that event while Wozniacki was the finalist in 2017.
From the organization
Tournament director Salah Tahlak commented
“We are delighted to welcome Simona Halep back to Dubai. There are few players who can match her tenacity and skill, but she is sure to be stretched to the limit by a player field that features not only seven of the top 10 but a total of five players who have been ranked world No 1 and four who have won grand slam titles. It will be very exciting to see how she deals with the challenge.”
Simona won the title in Dubai in 2015 after she defeated Karolina Pliskova 6-4 7-6 (4) in the final.
The defending champion is Elina Svitolina that last year defeated Wozniacki 6-4 6-2.
BACK TO WORLD NO.1 SOON?
