Federer reaches his 30th slam final

Roger Federer reaches his 30th slam final in Melbourne without breaking a sweat.

The world no.2 had to face Hyeon Chung in the final 4, but unfortunately the upcoming South Korean had to withdraw in the second set for blisters.

Roger was in full command of the match from the very beginning to win the opener 6-1. In the second set the South Korean appeared to be extremely slow, and after he called a medical timeout to re-tape his left foot, he had to call it a day when the match was on a 6-1 5-2 scoreline.

Even if this wasn’t the way that Roger wanted to reach the final, the good news for him is that he spent just 62 minutes on court. That means that Roger will be 100% fresh ahead of his final.

During the on-court interview, Roger commented

“I thought the first set was kind of normal; I couldn’t tell what was going on with my opponent. In the second set, I could feel he was getting a bit slower, fighting with the blister. It hurts a lot.

It’s better to stop, that’s why this one feels bittersweet. Credit to him for trying so hard again today.”

The final vs. Cilic

Roger will face Marin Cilic in the final for the title. The head to head is 8-1 for the Swiss (3-1 on hardcourt). Roger has recently defeated Cilic in the Wimbledon final (2017) after the Croatian was himself struggling with the blisters. This time both Roger and Marin will be at their best!

Game on!
