WTA Rankings – Azarenka returns to world no.1

We had a great reshuffle after this Wimbledon edition.

As per the men’s rankings, there is a new world no.1 and it is a comeback: Vika Azarenka.

Vika didn’t have an incredible Wimbledon to lose in the semis at the hand of Serena (see article here), but she took advantage of Sharapova’s early defeat from Lisiki (see article here) that made the Russian losing lots of points.

A very interesting news is also Radwanska getting the 2nd spot in the rankings. Agnieszka fully deserves it. She is having a wonderful year even if she has been beaten so many times by Vika, but she is really stepping up.

Maria Sharapova loses to places to be ranked as world no.3, but she is not so far away from the first and second place.

After winning her 5 Wimbledon, Serena gets to the 4rth place and it isn’t likely she is going to stop. To keep an eye on her.

The huge disappointment is once again Petra Kvitova that was expected by many to become the dominant player in 2012. Petra didn’t make it and is getting down and down in the rankings (now world no.6)

Incredibly enough, Sara Errani stepped up another place to become world no.9. Most of her points came from her wonderful Roland Garros (she was the runner up, see article) and victories in some minor tournaments (see article).

Finally, Ana Ivanovic is slowly climbing up. The Serbian beauty was badly trashed by Azarenka (see article), but she is finding her way back in the top ten (now ranked no.12).
