There is no need to be worried about Tsitsipas says Serena Williams’ coach Mouratoglou

Stefanos Tsitsipas has been hitting stumbles in the tennis courts lately. Coach Patrick Mouratoglou, however, thinks he still has what it takes.

Patrick Mouratoglou is one of the most well-known tennis coaches in the world. The Greek-French expert leads the training teams of tennis icon Serena Williams and rising star Coco Gauff, after all. What some do not realize is the fact that Mouratoglou also has a direct role in training Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Patrick Mouratoglou thinks Stefanos Tsitsipas is making progress

During a recent interview, Mouratoglou listed Tsitsipas as among the young players that can defeat the Big Three. While the act of defeating even more than one of the Big Three is a formidable task, the coach said that it is not impossible. Federer, Djokovic, and Nadal may be at the top of their game now but younger players like Grigor Dimitrov, Daniil Medvedev, and Tsitsipas can still defeat them.

Mouratoglou points out Stefanos’ record in particular. The Greek star defeated Nadal in the Madrid Open semifinals and Federer in the Australian Open earlier in the year. He also prevailed over Djokovic in the Canadian Open last year.

Mouratoglou, however, acknowledged that a player may have to face off and defeat all three players in a tournament for them to be defeated. Winning over one of the Big Three in one tournament is already difficult as it is. Beating all three of them would be a huge challenge.

Notably, Tsitsipas had a weak performance during the grass-court and North American hard-court seasons, ending with a first-round exit during the two Masters 1000 events and the 2019 U.S. Open. It seems, however, that Mouratoglou still believes in Tsitsipas’ potential. In fact, the Greek-French coach is regularly seen watching the Stefanos’ games.

Tsitsipas on a social media detox

Meanwhile, the Greek made the bold declaration that he does not want to check his social media accounts. This could be because he wants to focus on training and competing for his next matches.

Tsitsipas said that social media is not on his mind at the moment. He also confessed that his social media silence is the product of a personal pledge he made.

Tsitsipas on playing on the Davis Cup

The 2019 Australian Open semi-finalist admitted that he is enjoying the opportunity to represent his country in the Davis Cup. Tsitsipas said that it gives him some form of fulfillment. He also believes that the Davis Cup is a good way for him to prepare for the Olympics. If Stefanos performs well in the tournament, there is a good chance that he might have a slot reserved for him in the Tokyo Games.
