Federer – Murray – 2012 Wimbledon final preview – Youtube videos

We are about to witness an incredibly interesting Wimbledon final with so much at stake.

THE RECORDS TO BREAK

On one side, Federer can regain his top spot in the ATP ranking, he can match Sampras’ records of 7 Wimbledon titles and 286 weeks as world no.1, he can win his 17th major improving his own record.

On the other side, Murray can be the first British to win a major since 1936 (Fred Perry in Wimbledon).

Roger has always been the home favourite, but now it shouldn’t be like this today as most British are expected to back Andy.

STATISTICS

Both players played each other 15 times always on hard courts. Murray leads 8-7. Federer leads 2-0 in majors where he defeated Andy in 2 finals at the 2008 US Open (6-2 7-5 6-2) and at the 2010 Australian Open 6-3 6-4 7-6 (11). Roger won also both times they played the ATP finals in 2009 (3-6 6-3 6-1) and in 2010 (6-4 6-2).

THE INTERVIEWS

“It’s a great challenge, one where I’m probably not expected to win the match, but one that if I play well, I’m capable of winning,” Murray said. “There will be less pressure on me on Sunday because of who he is.”

“All I hoped for was a good match from me, to be quite honest, to give myself a chance to be in the finals and have a shot at the trophy again really,” Federer said. “I missed being in the finals here the last couple years obviously.”

Andy has some nice words for Roger “He’s obviously one of the greatest players ever to have played,” he said “I’d be surprised if he wasn’t the best in terms of his win/loss ratio here. He’s been doing it consistently over a number of years. The matches he has lost the last couple of years was five sets against Tsonga, five sets against Berdych, five sets against Rafa. He’s very, very tough to beat here.”
