Djokovic – Federer and Murray – Tsonga to play the 2012 semis in Wimbledon

DJOKOVIC – MAYER 6-4 6-1 6-4

It was a nice stroll for Nole that left only 9 games to the German. Nole is super ready to meet Federer for the first time on grass in a semifinal that could mean also the top spot in the ATP ranking.

‘I am looking forward to it,’ Djokovic said. ‘It’s always a pleasure playing him. He is a great champion. He has reached 33 consecutive grand slam quarter-finals. ‘He has dominated for so long. He is so consistent and for me it will be the ultimate challenge. ‘It was a tricky match. There were quite a few breaks and there was a rain delay and the conditions were quite windy. It could have gone either way but overall I was happy with my performance.’

FEDERER – YOUZHNY 6-1 6-1 6-2

Trashy stuff for the Swiss Maestro. The match was not even a one way traffic, because there was no match. Federer was just perfect in seizing its opportunity and to take the advantage of a very inconsistent Youzhny. The match lasted only 92 minutes.

Roger looks very focussed now to meet Djokovic in a semifinal that is one of the most important of his career.

“I’m happy going into the semis that I’m not tired, I’m not injured, I’m not anything,” said Federer. “I’ve been playing well for a year now. I’m fresh and ready to go.”

Head to head Roger leads 14-12, but he has never beaten Nole )n 12 months. This semis will be an epic battle.

MURRAY – FERRER 6-7 (5) 7-6 (6) 6-4 7-6 (4)

Andy is probably one of the biggest surprise of the tournament. His partenership with Lendl has been a big failure so far and it looked to be not any more able to compete at these levels. In addition, he had a horrible draw. Instead the Scott had another incredible performance to defeat Ferrer in 4 harsh sets.

“Obviously the goal now is to win the next match and try and get through to the final for the first time,” said Murray. “I’m obviously`happy. I’ve had a good run here the last few years, but I’m not satisfied with that. I want to try and go further.”

“I think the key was in the second set, when I had one set point in the tie-break,” said Ferrer. “But Andy, in important moments he played really good. He played more aggressive than me, and he was better. I never made a quarter-final at Wimbledon. I played really good tennis these two weeks, and I’m very happy for that.”

TSONGA – KOHLSCHREIBER 7-6(5), 4-6, 7-6(3) 6-2

Guess what? Tsonga reached another semis in Wimbledon. This time it wasn’t an epic recovery from 2 sets down as he did last year with Federer, but it still took four harsh sets for Jo to defeat the world no. 27.

“I’m really happy, really happy,” said Tsonga. “For the second time, I have reached the semis. For me, it’s going to also be a second chance.”

The he added “Before, I was not consistent enough in my head. I lost my concentration many times. It was tough for me to play tennis, honestly, because I lost my concentration every single day and it was difficult.”

Head to head is 5-1 for Murray. 2-0 on the grass. They have already played in Wimbledon in 2010 in the quarters when Murray won 6-7(5), 7-6(5), 6-2, 6-2.
