Roberta Vinci to retire from tennis in Rome

Roberta Vinci is almost done!

The 34-year-old from Italy has announced that she will retire on occasion of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome next May.

I want to say thanks to the Italians. VINCI

During a recent interview with the Gazzetta dell Sport, Roberta commented

“I’ve decided to continue and return to the court, but not for the whole year. I’ll finish at the Foro Italico. In the middle of the season, I will say goodbye to tennis, and it’s something I’ve considered for a long time. I’ve decided to make one last appearance in front of the Italian public as a way of saying thanks to all Italians.”

Roberta has won 10 titles in her career, and she hit the headlines when she denied the great Serena Williams to win a year slam after she stunned her in the US Open semifinal back in 2015. Eventually, Roberta lost the following final against her great friend Flavia Pennetta. Still, she wrote one of the best pages of the Italian tennis.

The Italian is also a former world no.1 in doubles, and she has one all Grand Slam titles in this specialty.
