Federer explains why he may not play in Paris

Even if Roger Federer had a fantastic draw in Paris, he might decide not to play the last ATP1000 of the season.

What happened

The Swiss has just landed in the final in Basel where he may have a rough match against Juan Martin Del Potro, and according to some reports the world no.2 is not at his very best from a physical point of view even if he is displaying a fantastic tennis.

Roger had a great draw in Paris, but he may feel uncomfortable in playing 2 tournaments back to back especially with the ATP Finals “looming” after 2 weeks. Roger is fully aware that he has a huge chance to win the Finals for the 8th time and he wants to be fully prepared for that.

What Federer said

Roger has recently cast some doubts about Paris to say

“I’m sorry to say that the number one is not a priority for me. I’m too far behind and I don’t think about it”.

“I’ll decide when it’s over this weekend what to do with Paris. I’m hoping to play there, but there’s also a good possibility that I won’t. We’ll see what happens; health is always more important at this stage of my career.”
