NEW RANKINGS. Cilic new world no.4, Dimitrov no.8, Thiem at career high

After the ATP1000 in Shanghai, we have some interesting movements in the “traditional” (i.e. not year-to-date) rankings.

Cilic

Marin is having a fantastic year after he won the title in Istanbul, he reached the finals at Queens and Wimbledon, and he has now reached the semi-finals in Shanghai. After his run in China, Marin overtakes Sascha Zverev as the new world no.4 (career high) and considering the fact that the world no.3 is Andy Murray (out for injury), the Croatian can definitely aspire at the 3rd place.

Dimitrov

Grigor has played a fantastic tennis in China to surrender only to a great Rafael Nadal in 3 sets in both Beijing and Shanghai. The Bulgarian has now overtaken Stan Wawrinka as the new world no.8 equalling his career high (2014). Dimitrov is just 140pts away from Novak Djokovic that will miss the rest of the season, so he has a huge shot at the world no.7 rank (and more).

Thiem

Dominic is having a rather miserable period as he has lost the last 4 matches. Still, his rankings are still very strong after his fantastic clay court season. The Austrian has taken full advantage of a “falling Djokovic” to go up 1 place in the rankings and be the new world no.6 (career high).

Here the top30.
