Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have been fighting for more than a decade and a half. Throughout that time, the two have dominated the game with their epic matches and have won a combined 39 Grand Slams between them. Fans still clamor to see a Federer vs. Nadal match and anytime the two meet tickets are definitely sold out.
Breaking Guinness spectator record
Spanish football giant Real Madrid is planning to host an exhibition match between the two tennis superstars at their 80,000 capacity Santiago Bernabeu stadium. A board meeting took place on Sunday night where plans of hosting a tennis match between Federer and Nadal were discussed. Club president Florentino Perez has also informed Nadal of his plans to host the tennis match. Nadal is a big fan of Real Madrid and his success in tennis has made him a popular figure in Spain. Perez has been toying with the idea of hosting a Federer vs. Nadal match at the Bernabeu for a long time. “We have tried many times to break the Guinness Record of tennis spectators by organizing a Nadal-Federer match at the Bernabeu but one of them is injured or cannot play.” Perez, however, remains optimistic that the match will happen since the two show no signs of slowing down. “The good thing is that, as it seems that they will play for so long, there is still time.”
Current Record
A match between Federer and Nadal at the Bernabeu would break the tennis attendance record for a single match. The record currently stands at 35,681 in an exhibition match between Kim Clijsters and Serena Williams at the King Baudouin stadium in Brussels. Federer and Nadal are poised to break that record when they play a charity match in Cape Town, South Africa which has already seen 48,000 tickets sold out. Proceeds from the match will go towards supporting The Roger Federer Foundation’s efforts in the region.
