Finally, Genie Bouchard!

The Canadian hasn’t won a title, but she has been struggling so much with her tennis that she wasn’t able to win a single match since Paris to lose four consecutive encounters.

Now ranked no. 73, the Canadian hottie is looking forward to having a deep run in Washington where she defeated Christina McHale 7-6 (6) 6-0 in the first round. The match against the American was all about the first set when Genie recovered a 1-3 deficit to bring the affair to the breaker. The tiebreak became a thriller when Genie squandered 4 consecutive set points after she was leading 6-2  (she failed to convert 4 set points also while leading 6-5). Finally, Bouchard found the solution to win the tiebreak at 6.

Mchale didn’t manage to stay with Genie in the second set, and eventually the Canadian won the encounter in straight sets.

I managed to stay there. BOUCHARD

Talking about the 8 set points that Genie missed, the Canadian commented

"I didn't realize it was so many. I think it really shows that I really stayed in the moment and I really focused on not letting myself get frustrated, especially in the tiebreak. Just because I missed eight doesn't mean I'm going to miss the ninth one."

Next vs. Petkovic

Genie will play Andrea Petkovic in the 2nd round. The head to head is 4-1 for the German that is also struggling with her rankings (she is no world no.114). Let’s see if Genie can back her win.
