It’s not a fantastic moment at the top of the rankings.
In the ATP, the world no.1 (Murray) and the world no.2 (Djokovic) have failed to reach even the quarters in both the Australian Open and Indian Wells before withdrawing from Miami.
In the WTA, following Serena’s retirement from Indian Wells, Angelique Kerber regains the top of the rankings even if she crashed as early as in the 4th round. The German has now a poor 9-6 win-loss record in 2017 (not great for a world no.1).
Karolina seems to be the one to take advantage of Serena and Angelique’s struggles, but she failed to go beyond the semi-final in Indian Wells. The Czech is still ranked no.3, but she is reducing the gap with the top2 players.
Kristina played a fantastic tournament in the desert to reach the semi-finals. After this run, she finally cracks in the top20 (now ranked no.18 and going for more).
Here the top30.
