Nick loses a terrible match in the Australian Open second round. VIDEO
Probably Roger Federer got it right from the beginning: Kyrgios is not ready yet to win this Australian Open.
The Swiss Maestro had the feeling that Nick didn’t have many chances to win the all thing in Melbourne and, in fact, the Australian crashed out after squandering a sizeable lead in the second round against Andreas Seppi.
Nick won the opening set in an emphatic way against the Italian (6-1) to conquer the second one at the breaker. Kyrgios’ match started to go sideways from the middle of the 3rd set when she lost five consecutive games (from 6-1, 7-6, 4-3 to 6-1, 7-6, 4-6, 0-2). Eventually, Kyrgios lost the 4th set to start a new drama in the decider. The Australian managed to break Seppi when the Italian was serving for the match on a 6-5 score-line, but subsequently, he failed to convert a match point after Andreas blasted a courageous forehand down the line (8-7). Eventually, Nick was broken again in the 17th game (9-8), and the Italian didn’t fail to serve out the match for the second time. Andreas won 1-6 6-7 (1) 6-4 6-2 10-9.
It was important to keep the focus. SEPPI
Andreas avenged his 2015 loss when he was defeated by Kyrgios in the 4th round of the Australian Open. The Italian thinks that the key was his ability to keep the focus
“Maybe it was meant to be. It was a tough match, and I couldn’t get into a rhythm and fell 2-0 sets behind. I kept fighting and started to play well in the important moments.
I was concentrating on my game and not worrying about he was doing. It was important to keep going and to stay focused.”
Next vs. Darcis
Andreas will now play Darcis for a place in the 4th round. The have never played each other so far.
