Novak Djokovic beats Andy Murray (and the odds) to win his first title of the season in Doha. The world no.2 had a rather shaky run in Qatar after he lost the first four games in the opener against Struff and he saved five match points in the semifinal against Verdasco. For this reason, the Serb looked doomed against Andy Murray, but eventually, he found his best tennis to defeat the Brit 6-3, 5-7, 6-4in an epic.
The final was a thriller with Murray saving three championship points on Djokovic’s serve in the second set when he was 6-3 5-4 down. Eventually, everything went to the decider when Djokovic gained the decisive break in the 7th game at love (4-3). Nole held his next two service games to win the match after a fantastic 2 hours and 54 minutes’ contest.

After the match, Nole commented
“Best scenario I could ask for at the beginning of the season. Playing all five matches in this tournament and then three hours against No. 1 of the world, biggest rival, and winning in a thrilling marathon match. It was a really, really thrilling performance from both of us. Just a great way to start the year.”
This is Djokovic 67th career title and a very sweet one.
