Novak Djokovic has just terminated a horrendous campaign in Rio where he crashed out in the first round in singles (d. by Del Potro) and in the second round in doubles.

One week ago, Djokovic wasn’t sure if he would have played in Cincinnati to say that he would have decided soon after the Olympics.

Eventually, even if Nole didn’t have a very busy week in Brazil, he decided not to play in Cincinnati. His next tournament will be the US Open.

Cincinnati was the only ATP1000 that the world no.1 has never won.

Injury?

There have been some speculations about a possible injury, but the world no.1 has declined to comment on that.

According to some reports, Djokovic's doubles partner, Nenad Zimonjic, has confirmed that Nole is struggling with an injury.

Injury or mental fatigue are the only explanations. Winning a lot is very tiring and he seems to be exausted

Something has changed in Novak`s mind and an injury is highly possible. He probably never wanted to play in Cincinnati and he had in mind to use the excuse of the Olympics. At the end of the day he hasn`t played much in Rio.
