Zverev dismisses Kyrgios in straight sets

Sascha beats Nick 6-4 6-4. VIDEO

Sascha Zverev reaches the quarters in Miami after dismissing a below-par Kyrgios in straight sets.

The Australian wasn’t in the right mood from the very beginning to immediately concede his serve in the 1st (0-1) and 5th (1-4) game of the opening set to find himself battling on a 1-5 scoreline after just 16 minutes. Apparently, the Australian was struggling with his back, and the biggest problem for his opponent was just to keep the focus. Eventually, Kyrgios found the way to win 3 consecutive games out of the blue (4-5), but it was the German to hold his serve soon after and conquer the opening set (6-4).

Until that moment, this encounter wasn't of great quality, but finally the match took off in the second set. In fact, Kyrgios looked more interested in the battle, but a more solid Zverev found the decisive break in the 5th game (3-2) before conquering the contest after just 71 minutes (6-4 6-4).

It’s always entertaining playing Nick. ZVEREV

After the match, Sascha commented

“It's always entertaining playing him. I think the crowd enjoys it. The media hypes it up a little bit. We both enjoy this kind of stage. I think the crowd was loving it today.

Obviously, I'm very happy with how I played, and hopefully, I can continue doing so in the next few rounds.”

The quarters vs. Coric

Sascha will play Borna Coric in the quarters. The head to head is 2-0 for Borna.

I am so happy to see the back of Kyrgios in this tournament. For me he does nothing for the sport and did not look like he was interested in this match. Claiming back pain after the defeat is just looking for excuses.

Would I pay hard earned money to see Kyrgios ? NEVER in a million years - he would have to pay me.

I often have the impression that Kyrgios will end up being an improved version of Monfils. Nothing more.

Not a great match. Also If Kyrgios wants to constantly beat the to guns, he needs to present a much more complete package. This is not enough.
