Daniil Medvedev wins a remarkable match and the title in Sydney.

Ranked no.84, the Russian had to work hard to win his 1st career title against a spirited Alex De Minaur. In fact, the Australian demolished Daniil in the 1st set 6-1 playing a tennis out of this world. Then Medvedev was exceptional in changing completely his tactic form being super aggressive to playing conservative. Eventually, that paid off handsomely with the Russian getting a decisive 1-6 6-4 4-0 lead, but that wasn’t over.  In fact, Alex managed to incredibly craw his way back to break the Russian twice and make things even (5-5). At that point, many players would have caved, but Medvedev found the mental strength to keep on playing at his very best to eventually win the match 1-6 6-4 7-5 after a 2 hours and 13 minutes' epic.

It was amazing coming through the qualify. MEDVEDEV

Daniil was ecstatic not only because it was his maiden title, but also because he had to conquer it coming straight form the qualifications.  The Russian commented

"It's amazing. Really happy. I mean, to make it through the qualies, there were so many circumstances. I wanted to go to Auckland, because my girlfriend had a visa to New Zealand, and not even one guy withdrew from Auckland. Then finally four guys withdrew on-site, but of course, I couldn't go there already, and now I win here. So just amazing."

The Russian will now head to Melbourne where he will face another Australian nextgen, Thanasi Kokkinakis, in the opener. The head to head is 2-0 Medvedev.
