Roger defeats Sascha in 3 sets. VIDEO

Roger Federer reaches the semifinals in London after beating a dangerous Sascha Zverev in 2 hours and 12 minutes contest.

The match

Roger had to battle hard in the opening set as he was struggling to play his trademark (aggressive) tennis. The Swiss couldn’t convert 2 set points on Sascha’s serve in the 11th game (6-5) to find himself in deep waters in the following tiebreak when had to face a severe 0-4 deficit. Eventually, the Swiss found his way back to win the next 5 points (5-4) and clinch the tiebreak at 6.

Things seemed to get better and better for the world no.2 in the second set after he broke Zverev immediately to then grab a 2-0 lead. The German regrouped, and he broke back in the 4th game (2-2). Later in the set, it was Federer to fold and concede his serve in the 12th game (5-7).

The last set was pretty straightforward: after Zverev won the first game, Federer won the following 6 to conquer the match with a 7-6 (6) 5-7 6-1 scoreline.

Not 100% happy. FEDERER

After the match, Roger didn’t hide that fact that he was extremely frustrated during the match to comment

“These are the situations that upset you after a while because you’re there and then you might get unlucky later, but you should have made the first one.

You get unlucky maybe because the first time you make a mistake, but instead of trying to play it simple you try to play too fancy but again credit to Sascha for playing tough.

He got into the match better, and I was doing a lot of defending today. I wasn’t really happy that I couldn’t be more on the offensive but credit to Sascha for staying tough from the baseline."

After this match, Federer is already qualified for the semifinals while Sascha has to beat sock in his third match if he wants to reach the final 4.
